Don’t Forget to Run Your Business!

In last Monday’s blog, I told you how prepared I was to teach my first dance classes at a new location, working to expand my business. I explained how, even though all my planning was essentially all in my head, I would be using the Dance Daze® First Class Checklist to cross my Ts and dot my Is. I wanted to be over-prepared for my new students and my new classes. I was completely focused on the educational experience my students would have while exploring the world through music and movement. It’s great that that’s where my head was! The problem is: I completely forgot to mention that I would be entering the dance studio as both a dance educator and as a business owner.

In addition to having a lesson, playlist, and props for my students, I need sign-in sheets, a registration system, and a first aid kit when I teach! When I go to teach, I am not just an artist; I am also an entrepreneur.

So if you are starting your own dance business or expanding to a new location, don’t forget to run the business-side of your dance education organization! We are artists and educators as much as we are directors and CEOs. Keep that frame of mind the next time you walk into your studio!

Oh, and here’s this week’s freebie! Grab the Dance Daze® First Class Business Stuff Checklist FREEBIE to make sure you have all you need for the business side of your first dance class and all future dance classes!

Yoga Classes at Dance Daze

Hatha Yoga Video Lunge Pose - Hanurasana

Yoga has many benefits for dancers, such as increased strength, balance, flexibility, turnout, and stamina. Purifying the body from toxins, relieving stress, and improved circulation are additional benefits.

We at Dance Daze always want to offer a variety of beneficial classes to our students, and we think yoga will be a great new addition! As of January 2011, we will be adding yoga to our class schedule.

Our yoga classes will include:

Baby Yoga for toddlers and preschoolers and Beginning Yoga for children, teens, and adults.  In their Baby Yoga class, our youngest ones will learn toddler-friendly yoga poses. Each class will be enhanced with songs, stories, and games. Children’s Beginning Yoga will allow kids to learn yoga poses through acting out a fun, imaginative story. Teen/Adult Yoga will include yoga poses and balances, cardio aerobics, and core-strengthening exercises.

In addition to our new yoga classes, we will also be starting a monthly Nutrition and Weight Training series in the New Year! These classes will be taught by a healthcare professional and a professional trainer. Keep following us for more details!

Opening Week!

Our classes at Dance Daze officially begin this week, and we are excited that our Opening Week coincides with National Arts in Education Week!

National Arts in Education Week

This past weekend, Dance Daze held its open house on Saturday, September 11th from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.  We were glad to be able to provide interested parties with information about our classes!

Dance Daze Flier

Please know that since we are just beginning this program, if you are interested in taking a specific class, but see that it is not offered at a time that is most convenient for you, drop us an email, or give us a call to request a time change!  We are interested in working around schedules and switching classes to more convenient times, as long as we can get a minimum number of students for each class.

Reminder: Today is the LAST DAY to have the REGISTRATION FEE WAIVED!  After today, all new students will be required to pay a one-time registration fee when they enroll in the program.
