Spotlighting Our 2021 Best Seller: The Jet Setter Dance Board

Our smallest dance board and our best-selling dance board in 2021 is The Jet Setter. We designed this board because we wanted an extremely portable, affordable dance board that recreational and pre-professional dancers could use to practice their technique at home or on-the-go.

Co-founder Saumirah discovered that, though it is only 23 inches in diameter, the Jet Setter is still perfect for practicing tap dance combinations (it really forces you to dance with your feet underneath you!), non-traveling pointe exercises, and even pirouette turns if you’re already a somewhat strong turner (otherwise, you may fall off of the board, so be prepared for that!).

Some of our DDDB Brand Ambassadors (search for the hashtag #DDDBambassador across social platforms!) have shown us that they really DO use their Jet Setter in ways that we intended and beyond! Meaning, we’ve seen Jet Setter Dance Daze Dance Boards in college dorms, in front of coffee shops, acting as a solid platform in the middle of a field covered in snow, and more! Basically, our Brand Ambassadors are truly the jet setters that we imagined they would be!

With that in mind, but also with the knowledge that we’re still a small family-owned business, we wanted to create a way to make it easier for our community to carry around their Jet Setter dance boards. We didn’t want to cut a space for a handle in the board itself because we didn’t want there to be any less space on an already small platform or to break up the smooth surface for tap dancing and pointe work that our Jet Setter dance board provides. Additionally, we didn’t want to add a piece of fabric for a handle that might not be secure enough with glue alone. And, we didn’t want to ruin our beautiful Jet Setter boards by sticking nails through the wood in order to secure a handle to the back side.

Therefore, at the end of 2021, we decided that we’d begin selling all Jet Setter dance boards with a simple tote bag *included in the regular price, at no additional charge*!

So, beginning in January of 2022, all Jet Setter Dance Daze Dance Boards purchased will not only come with foam padding at the bottom to create a sprung board (oh yeah, that’s another change we made to Dance Daze Dance Boards this year — ALL of our dance boards are now sprung floors!), but they will also come with a carrying tote! We are so excited to make it even easier for you to carry around your Jet Setter dance board, whether you’re bringing it on a road trip, to the park, to a friend’s house, to a dance convention, and more!

We can’t wait to see where you’re dancing next on your Dance Daze Dance Board. Remember to share your photos and videos with us with the hashtags #DanceDazeDanceBoards #DancingColorfully and #DanceWellDoGood!

Let’s chat again soon, friend!

What Makes Dance Daze Dance Boards Different

As a small business, there are many things that differentiate us from bigger companies out there that are producing dance boards.

As a company that was co-founded during one of the craziest years ever–2020 if it needs to be named–our business is extra special.

Our business was born out of a genuine desire to positively impact the world during a time of duress, uncertainty, and the onset of a pandemic. At the beginning of the pandemic, our co-founder Saumirah McWoodson immediately began creating free educational content for kids, adults, and anyone who had an internet connection. Saumirah knows that when it feels like the world is spinning out of control, she has the ability to create her own sense of stability and structure. So, in addition to supporting children in continuing to study dance and spreading positivity, she wanted to help to create a regular structure and give both her (then, newly virtual) students and herself a stable foundation on which to stand in unprecedented times.

Seeing Saumirah’s hard work and also the joy which dancing around the house or outside, reading educational books to children, and renting studio space to record full-length dance classes for kids inspired her partner Jeff to want to get involved and to support Saumirah’s efforts. He offered to make a quality dance board that she could use inside or outside and wherever she was creating content and dance videos to share with others.

Today, we still handpick each piece of wood ourselves. We either rent a truck or drive the wood home in Jeff’s Jeep. Each board is then cut with our own tools, painted and glossed by hand, then driven to our favorite mail delivery store so that it can be packed and shipped to your door.

We are familiar with the pattern of each piece of wood. We know the places where the wood is darker is lighter. We look at each letter of paint and decide if it needs an extra coat or if it’s ready to be left to dry.

Maybe it won’t always be this way. One day, we hope to have a team of people who create each Dance Daze Dance Board and who examine each board with as much care and thoughtfulness as we do, admiring each individual board as its own work of art.

But for now, it’s still just Saumirah and Jeff.

And that, friends, is what makes Dance Daze Dance Boards different from the rest.

Top 2 Dance Daze Dance Boards

Want to guess what our 2 most popular dance boards are at DanceDazeDanceBoards.com?

If you said The District and The Cosmopolitan, you’d be exactly correct! The District is our board that is most frequently purchased and both The District and The Cosmopolitan are the products that people compare most frequently when they visit our website.

Now that you know what our top 2 products are, do you want to know why?

Well, the jury is still out on the exact reasons why (and we aren’t yet running any tests to study the psychology behind people’s purchasing decisions for our dance boards); however, we have a few ideas!

First, The District and The Cosmopolitan are some of our our largest boards that are easy to ship and don’t have extremely crazy shipping fees! (Now, don’t get me wrong–shipping is super high for our products because they’re big and awkwardly shaped! If you’re interested in getting a huge discount for our dance boards, email info at dancedaze.org ASAP!) The District is about 6 inches larger in diameter than The Cosmopolitan, however.

Second, these boards are easy to transport but, again, since they’re larger than our other boards and larger than other circular wooden dance boards in the marketplace at this time (namely, The District!), they give a decent amount of space for dancing, whether you’re practicing tap, ballet, pointe, or Irish step dancing.

Third, there are TONS of benefits in using our sprung dance boards, like reduced fatigue, reduced chance of injury, and a very slight bouncy feeling when practicing jumps. (Read more about our sprung boards here.) However, both The District and The Cosmopolitan give off great sound, and if you want to save a few bucks, The Cosmopolitan might be your best bet!

Why do you think these two boards are our most popular? Leave a comment or email us at info at dancedaze.org to let us know!
