We tried hula hoops in our Creative Movement/Pre-Ballet class for the first time last week! The kids seemed to really enjoy this new prop.
We decided to incorporate hula hoops into the lesson plan on Saturday because we will be having a “theme,” or a specific focus, each month. This month, we are focusing on colors and shapes–noticing colors and shapes of items we use throughout class followed by a class of creating similar shapes with our bodies. We think this new structure will allow us to bring fun items to each class with an educational purpose for the students. For the last 5 to 10 minutes of each class, we will be using fun props that relate to our monthly theme! But don’t worry–we still make time for a warm-up activity, static stretching, ballet fundamentals, traveling dance movements, and free dance in each class!
We hope your children love the new variety in class!
